MASSOB rebrands as Arewa youths sue for peace
~TheGuardian, Nigeria.
CITING the need to consolidate as it transits from one level to another in the course of its struggle, the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has rebranded to Biafra Independent Movement (BIM).
Also, a group from Okigwe zone, led by Samuel Ogubuike, at the weekend, pledged allegiance for Ralph Uwazurike, saying the Uche Madu group was allegedly expelled in 2014 for adopting violent approach to their struggle.
Rising from a crucial meeting yesterday in Owerri, Uwazurike, accompanied by a member and known lawyer, Uche Okwukwu, named Chief Edwin Ileagu, from the Enugu West zone of the group, as new leader of BIM, adding that he would lead for two weeks, at first instance, adding that in the new movement, everybody was regarded as a leader on a rotational basis.
As always done in the defunct MASSOB, the doctrine of non-violent posture would be adopted," he stated.
Uwazurike urged the release of Nnamdi Kanu, whom though he berated for announcing hate messages on radio, contrary to his body's philosophy.
Meanwhile, Arewa youths under the umbrella of Arewa Triumphant Youth Foundation (ATYF) have urged the agitators to lay down their arms and allow peace reign in the country.
The group said though tribe and religion differ, it would not be happy to see their Eastern brothers and sisters seceding and leave Nigeria dismembered as an indivisible entity.
ATYF President, Mallam Ibrahim Yusuf, while addressing a press conference at the weekend on activities lined up for a proposed Arewa Youth Leadership Summit scheduled for this month in Kaduna, said it was regrettable that major actors in pro-Biafra protest, Boko Haram insurgency, kidnapping and Fulani herdsmen crises were youths of this present generation, adding that "there is no point for our eastern brothers and sisters to agitate to pull out of Nigeria. We are brothers. We should be able to live together as one big family, nothing should separate us," he appealed.

The leader of the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike yesterday insisted that he remains the leader of the Pro-Biafra movement.
This was just as he has reiterated that Mr. Uchenna Madu and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have long been expelled from the movement for gross misconduct.
Recall that earlier in the week a faction of the Pro Biafra movement led by Comrade Uchenna Madu announced the expulsion of Chief Ralph Uwazuruike over alleged fraud and misappropriation of the funds belonging to the group.
But speaking through the National Director of Information, Chris Moucha, the MASSOB leader who distanced MASSOB from the ongoing violent demonstrations by the supporters of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), across South- East and South South states.
Uwazuruike said that the former directors, Nnamdi Kanu of Radio Biafra, London, and Uchenna Madu, were expelled members since September 30, 2009, and August 30, 2014, respectively for their violent related behaviours, and added that they cannot speak on behalf of the organisation in any capacity.
There is no faction in MASSOB, Uwazuruike is still MASSOB leader, they insisted, saying somebody from outside MASSOB cannot dethrone its leader. It however dissociated itself from the violent activities of IPOB.
"There is no faction in MASSOB I have remained silent on the matter because silence is the best answer to a fool".
He further stressed that somebody outside MASSOB does not have the capacity or authority to dethrone its leader, noting that Uchenna Madu masterminded the last crises in MASSOB's administrative headquarters, at Okwe, Onu-Imo L.G.A, of Imo State, which led to the death of four innocent members because of his usual character to decimate the organisation in order to emerge the new Igbo champion.
Similarly, the Orlu Zonal Director of information Comrade Onyenuma Ahamefule has warned Uchenna Madu who claimed to be the new leader of MASSOB to desist from such nefarious act or be ready to face the consequences.
Onyenuma who accused Uchenna Madu of trying to destabilize the movement alleged that the former Information director sabotaged the organisation by deceiving restive youths and public.
"MASSOB is a disciplined organisation we follow the footsteps of our Visionary and disciplined leader, Chief, Dr. Ralph Uwazuruike. His philosophies and principles are our watch-word".
Also, Abia Central Zone of the group, has said that the action of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Onitsah , Anambra State between December 1 and 2 was satanic.
Meanwhile, seven persons suspected to be members of the Pro-Biafran group were arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for engaging in protests in front of the state Government House.
